The Basic series philosophy
The Basic series was built on a deliberate idea: clean geometry, dual texture and symmetrical forms that serve the setter's intent rather than the shaper's ego. Simple, brutalist shapes that are built to be used, not admired — a philosophy that has held since 2014 and now underpins almost everything Rockcity makes.
Shape range
The PU range spans beginner-friendly jugs through to elite competition shapes, giving setters a full toolkit for daily resets as well as harder, more technical problems — all built on the same consistent friction and colour standards.
Planning a balanced commercial set
A useful gym order is rarely just a collection of eye-catching shapes. Setters need dependable footholds, positive holds for introductory circuits, directional grips for technical movement and harder options that continue the grading scale. Planning by wall angle, target grade and intended reset frequency helps avoid overloading one style while leaving gaps elsewhere. Rockcity families can be combined across sizes and grip types so a centre can build coherent circuits, refresh high-use zones and retain enough variety for future resets rather than exhausting every obvious sequence in the first setting round.
Care through repeated resets
Commercial holds should be inspected whenever they come off the wall. Remove loose chalk before washing, use non-abrasive brushes and allow every hold to dry fully before storage or reinstallation. Check the fixing area, edges and climbing surface for damage, and retire any item that cannot be installed securely. Sorting clean holds by family, grip type or circuit colour also shortens the next reset. Consistent cleaning and correct installation protect surface friction and help the setting team get useful service from the range over many cycles.
