What the pros say
The new range of Rockcity holds really are state-of-the-art. No wear or polish, no chipping or cracking and the colours wash remarkably well. Feedback from our regular climbers has been very positive.
Climbing Legend & Foundry Co-Owner
The range of holds from Rockcity are the first to go into my setting bag. They make interesting, technical routes. As the highest spec holds on the market they are likely to be a big hit at many walls.
World Class Climber & Route Setter
What I like especially from these holds is a mix between inspiring shape, nice colours, soft friction. I really love to play first with the mental process to evaluate how hard the setting could be.

Commercial PU Climbing Holds
See PU HoldsRockcity PU climbing holds bring huge variety to the route setting team, with two distinct flavours: competition grade dual texture and ultra realistic “real rock”. Sleek dual texture on single function holds forces the moves the setter created, so the climber cannot break the beta — creating predictable moves for high level sport climbing competitions and commercial “comp style” setting. The polar opposite is our Fontainebleau and Gritstone ranges: highly detailed real rock style PU climbing holds that bring “problem” back into bouldering and make “on-sight” great again. Often overlooked, this selection is our most complex setting tool for the most creative route setters.
Best for:- Commercial route setting
- Sport climbing competitions
- Competition-style setting
- Clean lines
- Striking statement pieces
- Social media-friendly sets
-
Competition ABS-VTF Macros
See ABS-VTF MacrosRockcity dual texture macros changed the face of modern sport climbing competitions. Introduced in 2018, our Basic shapes were defined by the infamous “black ice” shiny part — treacherous to stand on and impossible to hold. They were selected for the first ever Olympic Games Sport Climbing Competition in Tokyo (2021). Now digitally remastered for 2026 with our all new “meet the future” ABS vacuum macros. Thermoformed multilayer engineered ABS (and ABS PMMA) uses half the material and weight, stays rigid, is more durable, significantly lower cost, and takes far less energy to make — with 50% recycled material, 100% recyclable, and refurbishment available.
Best for:- Sport climbing competitions
- Modern competition setting
- Dual texture control zones
- Big macro features
- Black ice style training
- Clean, forced movement
-
Professional Plywood Climbing Volumes
See Plywood VolumesPlywood volumes are a fast way to add angle, height, and extra volume to a climbing wall without major rebuilds, and they’re simple to move around to constantly change the terrain for the route setting team. Light enough to move and reset but strong enough for constant use, they’re perfect for big moves, smears, mantles, aretes, and huge compression. Use them alone for clean movement or pair with holds/macros to create complex features and modern competition problems. Rockcity also offers the most complex dual texture panelling on the market, widely used in World Climbing events, using colour, gloss and texture to control where you can stand or hold at scale.
Best for:- Reshaping the climbing wall
- Building big features
- Varied movement
- Competition stage dressing
- Route-setting flexibility
- Wall flexibility

About Rockcity Climbing Holds
Rockcity Climbing Holds is a leading manufacturer of competition-grade climbing holds, macros and volumes, with its beginnings reaching back to 1994, when Rockcity Climbing Gym was born. We have always been interested in the technologies of climbing walls and climbing holds, making our first sets back in 1992 while the gym was getting off of the drawing board. Our first commercial set was in the late 1990's when we collaborated with Malcolm Smith, probably the world's strongest climber at the time to create a PE set. Following on from this, Rockcity's founder Mark English started a new climbing training hold company with Gavin Ellis and Ben Moon, the legendary S7.
In 2014 we started to have an interest in PU holds. PU offered a whole new set of options in shape that we couldn't have dreamed of using PE (polyester resin). The Basic series was shaped, bringing single directional, symmetrical, very plain shapes that now are the foundation for almost everything Rockcity — they were not really understood or well received at the time due to the focus on shapes, shaping and shapers. We were still stuck in the world of the ego of the shaper, not the importance of the route setter. Still, we persevered to make tools for route setters, not sculpted pieces of art. As with architecture, sometimes the more simple and brutalist, the more attractive it is to use.
In 2018 the IFSC held a meeting showcasing the opportunity to supply holds to the world's first ever Olympic climbing competition. Within only one year, the Basics in their latest dual textured version in fibreglass macro were selected. This changed the face of modern climbing competition and now, basic shapes and dual texture is the norm across all high-level competitions. Often directly copied, we stand by our Basic design principles and those Tokyo 2020 Olympic holds are still some of the best things we have ever produced, being used again in the second Olympic Games to feature climbing, Paris 2024.
Now Rockcity is trusted by route setters, especially at the IFSC World Cups, World Climbing Championships and of course the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In 2026, all plywood volumes and ABS-VTF macros are designed and produced in-house using complex engineering to solve the industry's technical requirements and ABS-VTF materials, built to withstand the demands of commercial climbing gyms, high-level sport climbing competitions and elite training facilities.
From beginner-friendly jugs to elite competition shapes, our range covers every style and difficulty. Our PU offer fully complements our larger macro and plywood volumes. Our expertise also shows up in a collaborated range of climbing wall paints and texture coatings, developed with our local partner and industrial paint manufacturer, Coo-Var.
We also manufacture adjustable training boards and climbing walls used in both commercial gyms and elite athlete private training facilities, as well as route setting accessories and sometimes full climbing gym builds — basically everything you need to build and equip a world-class climbing facility. Whether you're a gym owner looking for a trade account or a climber building a home board, Rockcity has you covered.
