Plywood Volumes Manual

We want you to get the best from your Rockcity volumes. In order to achieve this, then please follow all safety advice. All volumes should be fitted or installed by a suitably trained or experienced professional. Take care not to over-tighten or spin out the screw placements, as this may result in your Ply Volume coming away from the climbing wall surface and could injure the climber, belayer, or another person in the immediate area. Modern Impact drivers are getting more and more powerful, causing unnecessary damage when not used with respect.

Screw-On Fixing: All of our Ply Volumes have been designed to be fixed to a flat climbing wall surface using 5mm countersunk wood screws (T25 or KTX) only. Make sure to use all screw holes provided; if there are six screw holes, then use six screws. All screws must have a minimum of 25mm (1") of thread still visible out of the back of the climbing hold (before installing) to ensure it is completely attached to the climbing wall surface.

Cleaning: All of our Ply Volumes can be power washed using a mild acid solution, e.g., citric acid, and warm water (up to 40°C) to remove shoe rubber and chalk. Make sure you rinse off with clean water to avoid any buildup of residue on the holds. Make sure not to use the power washer jet nozzle closer than 35 cm so as not to damage the textured surface. You can use any soft brushes to gently agitate the surface to remove marks. On dual texture gloss surfaces, a sponge and washing up liquid will remove any stubborn rubber marks and use auto paint polish or furniture polish to restore the high gloss finish, taking care not to get polish on the textured part, especially where the polish is a different color to the volume. Take care to dry the volumes as soon as possible, at room temperature or in the sun. Even though Rockcity plywood volumes are painted on the inside and edges, do not leave them sat in water, as this will lead to damage occurring and the life of your wooden volumes will be significantly shortened.

Inspection: Always inspect your volumes prior to use. Any cracks or damage to the screw or bolt holes or any defect that results in a sharp or dangerous defect should be withdrawn from use immediately.

Care: Treat your volumes well, and they will last for longer. Dropping or throwing them will result in damage, which will reduce the nice appearance of your holds or damage them beyond repair. Even rough treatment, or stacking them, where the volumes can rub together will likely scratch and wear your volumes prematurely. Placing them separately in storage as opposed to stacking them will significantly maintain the new appearance of your Plywood volumes.
