VTF process and why it matters
Vacuum thermoforming draws heated ABS sheet over a mould using vacuum pressure to create a thin-walled rigid shell. The result is a macro that performs like fibreglass structurally but at approximately half the weight — making large features practical to handle and reset in commercial environments.
Flangeless design
Most VTF-ABS macros carry a visible perimeter flange where the shell was trimmed after forming. Rockcity eliminated this through three years of R&D with aerospace and mechanical engineers, achieving edge profiles and insert geometry equivalent to GRP. Protected by Patent Pending WO2025/191268.
Handling large features during resets
The weight reduction of VTF-ABS is most noticeable when a setting team repeatedly lifts, positions and stores larger features. Setters still need to plan safe handling for the size and shape involved, protect finished surfaces from impact and keep fixing points clear while aligning the macro on the wall. The lighter shell does not remove the need for an installation check: use every specified fixing, confirm the feature sits correctly against the panel and inspect it before the wall reopens. Careful handling preserves both the texture and the edge geometry.
Choosing full or dual texture
Full-texture macros leave more of the shape available for hands, feet and body contact, which makes them flexible tools for commercial circuits. Dual texture deliberately removes friction from selected zones, allowing the setter to control where a climber can establish or how the body must move around the feature. The right mix depends on wall angle, grade range and how much visual instruction the problem should provide. For event or project orders, selecting finishes alongside colour and size produces a more coherent set than treating texture as a final cosmetic choice.
Ordering
Approved trade customers can order through the B2B catalog. For project quantities, competition supply or out-of-stock items, contact Rockcity before ordering so production timing and availability can be confirmed.
